I am quite happy to not be attached to your North Eastern grid.. sounds like a nightmare.
Might be a good time to see if you could installa system that if the grid fails, you can run off your own setup for awhile.
Diesel generator with a power pluginto the house as a back up?
Can solar array and batteries help?
