just been reading "the subprime solution" by Robert Shiller

He says there is really no shortage of land

Sure land is a fixed resource but it can be used in different ways

"They can build more densely in urban areas."

Here is an interesting site on a two story home designed to fit on a smaller bloke of land

    http://www.smartersmallhome.com.au/

You don't have to build homes using cement and timber. You can use things like tyres
Anyway these new smart homes use cheaper recycled materials developed by James Hardie.

total cost for a two storey three bedroom home... $160,000

The cost of land is anybody's guess.

However Shiller says there is no reason to pay high prices for land.

He says "And there is a great deal of land to expand to. According to the US Census for the year 2000, urban land area accounts for 2.6% of the total land area in the United States." p73

In Australia the percentage of urban land would be a lot less, I'd say maybe less than .005%

With the internet and the potential not to have live close to work, why wouldn't you live else where.

Makes you wonder if there is a bubble here or not doesn't it?
