so, where exactly is the lack of common sense - in the arborists instructions or in the people who plant the trees??

the obvious, isn't so obvious these days - many things in plastic are designed to go in the ground - IN THE plastic.

I was in a place the other day where any food waste in the kitchen that isn't used at home in compost - goes into small plastic bags

the bags are put into rubbish collection points ------ at the waste disposal facility -robots scan the garbage and pull out the bags - orange bags.

Then, those bags go straight into composting heaps - bag included. The bag breaks down with what is in it.

Plastic ain't plastic anymore
