Would it be fair comment that a large proportion of Japans market index stocks were in manufacturing and high tech and so vulnerable to competition from other rising asian economies and declining consumer spending in a GFC. A large proportion of Australian companies are in resources that are in a lot of cases becoming scarce. Just an opinion.
