Here's an interesting article explaining, amongst other things, the difference between thermogenic and biogenic methane. In the half yearly report it mentions moving the latest well to target potential thermogenic coal methane, based on the information gathered from the previous wells in phase 1. This article gives a small insight in to possibly why this decision was made.
It also mentions that gas desorption of cores may not always give true readings:
"This free gas (or a significant component of it) may not be detected by the conventional methods of core desorption and hence the low to non-existent gas contents revealed by these methods may be quite false"
