Financier granted bail on rabbit torture charges
A Sydney financier who was ordered to spend at least a year in jail for torturing rabbits and a guinea pig has been granted bail, pending an appeal against his sentence.
Brendan Francis McMahon was found guilty of 18 charges of aggravated animal cruelty and sentenced to a maximum of 16 months in jail.
In July and August last year, he severely mutilated and tortured to death the animals at his central Sydney office while suffering from a drug-induced psychosis.
In the Sydney District Court today he was granted bail.
The appeal against his sentence has been scheduled for October.
