That's kind of my point - on what basis do you claim that crime rates in Australia are at "unprecedented levels"? What data sets do you use to support that claim? The most recent data supplied by the Australian Institute of Criminology suggests that crime rates are decreasing.
The most recent findings from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (up to 2014) also show a decrease in the crime rate in Australia ("five year lows in homicide, robbery and motor theft victims"), with the exception of sexual assault.
