You made comment that to suggest taking this mans estate to give to the victims (or their families) seems wrong or misguided...
for the life of me i cant see that position and I frankly wont try.....
You then say..."The only one to blame is the person who did the deed. There may be extenuating circumstances but the buck stops with the doer."
The law should make him as accountable as possible. If the state deems that victims of crime get compensation, the criminal should pay.
(Dont get me started on how the taxpayers pay most of the victims of cime compensation here in Qld)
How you think this is misguided is, as I say, a total mystery.....
