Molopo shares fell 2.9 per cent yesterday, perhaps suggesting some of the followers of the previous management team may have defected to Orion.

Intriguingly, Molopo is also one of the stocks controversially held by Environment and Climate Change minister, Ryan Smith. Yesterday Premier Ted Baillieu denied any conflict of interest but announced Mr Smith would be selling his shares.

Orion/Petrel is a speculative buy given the reliably gassy nature of the Barnett shale but the jury is out for now on Molopo, still recovering from the messy boardroom coup.
