no, indeed people did that themselves. From 1960 they were happy to pay more and more and more for homes

they got bigger and bigger mortgages; so big that a one person working partnership could not possibly pay the mortgage: so both HAVE to work.

And for decades people thought rising house prices were good and made them wealthy.

Nothing to do with government at all.

What government did after a while was to jump on the bandwagon and throw petrol on the fire

but, at the bottom of it - was normal people
