''still any govt must be very careful managing their money. ''

all of the problems Australia has are from what governments in Australia did NOT spend on in the last 50 years

not from what they DID spend in covid or similar

every chook that we see flying in to roost now - comes from a lack of investment in decades past and some can down the road kicking

    every single problem

sometimes - it's been a dreadful timing thing where decisions when they should have been made were not - because of some issue about at the time - but, in the main -

by a country mile it's the very flawed cultural beliefs in the country - conservative thinking which based itself on cut cut cut, low tax, low debt and don't invest - because it involves spending

we see the results in -

housing - welfare and social housing just given up on. A kick the can mentality - leave it to others to reform dreadful real estate taxation laws

health - limited spending on primary health care and spend as little as possible on health facilities, dreadful ideas on tax for health funds - dreadful funding for education of doctors and nurses etc -------- limiting pay for nurses etc

education - the thinking that individuals are the greatest beneficiaries of education - whereas it's actually the country and the society that reap the biggest benefits from a well educated society. The almost total destruction of general research funding - including funding for STEMS ed and research - the VERY thing one needs to advance a society forward in a technological era

infrastructure - dams, roads, ports etc ------- limit or give up on spending when one is setting the society up to have a far larger population - because on has pandered to business for decades to bring in skilled and trained people because business understands that it's cheaper to have someone else to skill people somewhere else - so, they avoid their responsibility - - in the end - water supply, power supply, roads etc - all under extreme stress from more usage and less spending

in summary - the very ugly picture of where Oz is and is heading is from what has NOT been spent - as opposed to what has

John Howard finally twigged to it a few years back -------- he said 'times had changed and we didn't realise it' 'we thought we'd be alright if we just watched the spending' 'we were wrong'

too late to find out after decades of setting up the political field where everyone raced to the cut cut cut song

way too late - and we just cannot buy back the lost 40 years
