Voltaire, I agree with your posts regarding the conspiracy theories. The people peddling these focus on the short side of the equation, never the long side, because it suits their agenda. There's no balance or context (the 1980s/90s bear market was a conspiracy too).

For example and courtesy of 'Mr Gordon' today, here is the top 20 holding of TRY, a silver/gold producer. Note where HSBC and JPM lie in the list... Merrill Lynch is in there too. And we can multiply this example by hundreds, maybe thousands, of other precious metal stocks throughout the world:
