The next reported crushing was not unti/1885 when T.Talbot took out 1 ton for 10 ounces; then in 1886:

88 tons for 39 ounces; and in 1888/ 50 tons for 23 ounces.

Total from Muddy Creek -1885 /88: 191 tons for 212 ounces.

Today. on the hillside. above Woods Point Road. east of Muddy Creek, the old water race can still be

seen above a sheer cliff face whIch is the road cutting. Beware of loose and slippery ground, and a

deep incline shaft amongst the scrub.

Note: The returns quoted above are official figures as recorded by the Mines Department. Any amount

of gold which has been extracted from the mine unofficially. is virtually impossible to determine...........

My belief is many times the amount of gold extracted from any of these mines or diggings was not disclosed, taxes were in place then, but imagine the avenues to barter or sell for cash some 120 years ago .. Another point that haunts me is, in the ground in Victoria there is still as much gold as has been extracted , one of the reasons I say this is , over a hundred years things do not change,there are many prospectors making a very good living just in the golden triangle alone using detectors ranging from 5k$ to the German OKM,s 3d see thru the ground Tecnolgy item @ 56k$. But unless you meet them in the field you will not know they are there .... Cheers Vin
