My experience in government is that ass covering is a high priority so there may not be too many people willing to stick their asses out suggesting fast tracking Lani if some health issue turns up down the track. Also, there is no urgency to fast track it because the world is sufficiently covered by Tamiflu and Relenza.
On the other hand, the US Government Accountability Office might have a few words to say about the value for money, or lack thereof, spending so much on trials that essentially duplicate efforts overseas.
I will choke on my cornflakes if they fast track it, truth be told. My wishes are pretty simple.
1. They accept completion of Phase 2 recruitment as it stands; and
2. They ask for one, not two, Phase 3 trials.
