Biota Pharmaceuticals moves HQ to Alpharetta

ALPHARETTA, Ga. – An international pharmaceutical company is moving its headquarters to Alpharetta in May.

Biota Pharmaceuticals, formerly of Rockville, Md., is primarily known for manufacturing flu vaccines, said Dr. Joseph Patti, executive vice president for corporate development and strategy. The two flu products currently on the market are "Relenza," which is distributed by GlaxoSmithKline, and "Inavir," which is sold in Japan.

Biota's new HQ will be located on Northwinds Parkway in Alpharetta and will employ roughly 20 people. It will be purely corporate offices, with the research laboratories staying in Melbourne, Australia and Oxford, England. The total number of jobs in the office will grow over the next several years, Patti said.
