https://hotcopper.com.au/data/attachments/5064/5064494-043d40d3e7fa09f2c0e67ea07415b6d6.jpg've been told I'm not a bad story teller....Tonight, we cover a story I thought was more fiction than non fiction...

The other apt title for this post was going to be "MY Favourite MOA". (Mechanism of action for those that are really new to us), I know there are least a handful.

I think a few of you will now know where I'm heading. Though I've covered it a little in the past, tonight I cover Hyaluronan, one of my favourite Pentosan mechanisms of action. Its quite profound. If you ever see me randomly in the street, just say 'HA'. I will get Goosebumps.

    Please, as always, enjoy!

    L'OREAL

When I saw those L'Oreal ads on TV and in mags advertising their topical creams as Anti Wrinkle agents I scoffed. Surely this can't be true, a concoction that helps to remove wrinkles?

Not possible, and if it is, it must do it to such a miniscule amount that its hardly noticeable.

    https://hotcopper.com.au/data/attachments/5064/5064497-ffd60221a82924cfb639af2bf82bf15a.jpghttps://hotcopper.com.au/data/attachments/5064/5064500-a0ea83aa298507e0c591f3f986344bb9.jpg

Gorgeous yes, but isn't it Marketing Trickery?

Turns out it's not only true...but it involves one of my favourite mechanisms of actions of Pentosan. Tonight, we explore this EX Mozz Myth and we cover a little more about how it's heavier brother is one of the key mechanisms of action and exactly WHY its one of my favourite molecules other than iPPS of course!

    MY FRIEND

Just recently I was telling a very good pal of mine about this whole story of L'Oréal and how I assumed it wasn't true, the entire claim of less wrinkles on using their cream. It had to be a marketing gimmick. Maybe there was some teeny tiny efficacy...maybe one wrinkle out of hundreds dissipated?

Its all advertising and probably borderline false advertising?!

    I was dead wrong.

I told my friend that I was wrong, there actually IS efficacy in this product, it really does work!? I also mentioned to her (and a few other PAR peeps) that it not only works but it has a particular ingredient that is not only useful, its crucial to the body in a number of separate ways! I also explained about my number one gripe about the product that they often put in additives, preservatives and fragrance...namely Benzene.

Benzene in the world of Chemistry is known as an Aromatic Hydrocarbon, that wasn't a google look up, I remember that from my Year 12 Chem days way back when.

I care for my friends. I told her, if there is fragrance involved it will most likely have a molecule of Benzene involved. What's that famous term in Latin?

    Caveat Emptor

    Buyer beware.

Anything with Benzene isn't good for you, it's a carcinogen. (Cancer producing)

I'm not for a moment inferring never to use perfumes or fragrances, I'm saying for me at least, I'm using them in a very limited fashion...if there is a product that's Benzene free, then that's for me.

I kid you not, within 5 minutes flat of our discussion, this gem of a friend writes back and gives me a link for where to source the Aussie product that's fragrance free and even their website...Not only that but the product she gave me the link for is additive free and contains no Benzene....Hmmm note to self - I may need to recruit her into the Mozz Research Laboratories © one day. She's one of the hardest working employees I know.

MOZZ - WE NEED SOME EVIDENCE

Guys and gals, just take a read of this peer review finding4.5:

    https://hotcopper.com.au/data/attachments/5064/5064503-e139668b41dc8019a814b20bd325fa30.jpg

All HA-based creams utilized in this study demonstrated a significant improvement in skin hydration and overall elasticity values (R2) when compared to placebo. Measurements of wrinkle depth using mean roughness (Ra) and maximum roughness (Rz) values revealed significant improvement in the 130 and the 50 kDa HA group after 60 days of treatment compared to placebo-treated area.

Here is another observation by a different research team4.7

    https://hotcopper.com.au/data/attachments/5064/5064507-82fa58e4873f11976e8aeaa4ba1eaee4.jpg

    Significant improvement?

This is the power of HA...but that topical...what about the naturally stimulated higher weighted blend?

FORGET THAT- WHERE DOES HA RANK?

Mate...why am I such a big proponent of PAR? Why do I think our shares aren't just a little off..they are MASSIVELY off (my spec views, do not rely on just one person) ... because HA ranks as one of the highest prognostic biomarkers of OA... I'm talking a marker than has a great deal of correlation to the certain progress of the destructive pathogenesis of OA itself. Let me simplify just a fraction more.

You take a measure of HA 10 years ago in your bloods...you call this baseline...you take another measure 5 to 7 years later and if the lower weight has increased in your serum, you are a good chance of having OA progression. Its as simple as that. Couple this finding with CTX II and it becomes more compelling. How do I know this?

This slide from the FDA sanction Biomarker consortium seminar update two days ago::

Paradigmers, we know that HA (lower weight) is being released into the synovium, we do not want this...this is a result of the destructive disease known as OA....so, what do we want Mozz?

We want the HIGHER WEIGHTED BLEND into our synovium....the lovely viscose oil as I think of it....

    https://hotcopper.com.au/data/attachments/5064/5064526-2ec454be5c177706890744062de21e1d.jpg

Furthermore, it is known that degrading cartilage matrix releases hyaluronic acid (HA) into the synovial fluid in OA .

    https://hotcopper.com.au/data/attachments/5064/5064528-00166cd4d0cf20fd1472fd87f279bc5e.jpg

That quote above is from YOUR own company....(see reference 4 below), we don't want to the lower weighted HA into the synovium, we want the higher weighted blend...

But we have seen this by others, here is an example5:

    https://hotcopper.com.au/data/attachments/5064/5064547-2ec454be5c177706890744062de21e1d.jpg
Synovial fluid is often decreased in quality (viscosity) in osteoarthritis (OA) due to defective hyaluronic acid synthesis and increased catabolism.

We want the better 'oil' in the synovium to give us that super cushioning shock absorbency as well as weight bearing properties.

But if you have made it this far in a Mozz post...you know you will get more...

Give me more...tell me what really excites you Mozz about this so called HWHA.

    Easy:

    • HA promotes softer, more supple skin.
    • HA can speed up wound healing, that feature is even in our patent somewhere
    • HA has antibacterial properties
    • HA due to its immense water binding properties keeps bones and many other tissue fines hydrated.

Side story..I used to drink about 3 maybe 4 cups of water each day! Not ENOUGH! I bought myself a new smart water bottle, mate I'm reaching the target of 1.644 litres of water each and every day...the bottle even glows and buzzes me if I'm falling behind, love it.

    https://hotcopper.com.au/data/attachments/5064/5064553-59ff711112046b03168afccba116f046.jpg

A separate app on my phone tracks not only what have had but shows me where I am in terms of goals. The bottle sets targets every day based on humidity levels and my levels of fitness...love it. We need reminders to meet our targets...I need reminders of just how lovely our iPPS is. I read at least something about it every day. Yes its true, I need some research on iPPS each and every day.

    • HA slows rate of osteoporosis
We know Pentosan directly increases Collagen production, but HA also does this. This reminds me of Dr Krishnan's research demonstrating that iPPS directly and indirectly has influence in term of addressing inflammation Nf-kB

Have you heard of interstitial cystitis? HA production addresses this. Yes you are right, Elmiron is the drug of choice here and it is Pentosan but in pill format.

As a side note, its not only the wonderful higher weighted blend we want...its also the lower weighted degraded version that we DON'T want.

Summarised by this paragraph by researchers independent of Pentosan, published quite recently (Aug 2020).7

The presence of hyaluronic acid in many tissues and fluids determines its widespread use in medicine and cosmetology. The biological activity of HA depends on its molecular weight. It has been shown that high molecular weight HA has anti-inflammatory properties, and its rheological characteristics determine its use as a synovial fluid prosthesis in the treatment of various joint diseases, in cosmetology, and in aesthetic medicine as dermal fillers and in ophthalmology as artificial tears. Degradation of HA leads to a decrease in the molecular weight and, consequently, to a decrease in viscosity, which is detrimental to the use of HA.

    Par investors...

We want this naturally HWHA stimulated.

    This is Pentosan.

    This is what it stimulates.

    -Mozz
