I can clearly remember in the 1940s and 1950s my Melbourne parents and my Gippsland aunt and uncle listening the ABC news and the ABC 'Country Hour' on large valve radios that are antiques now that sell for high prices
Then and now the ABC achieved balance - not by pumping out middle-of-the-road mush that offended nobody.
Balance was achieved by show-casing a variety of news angles and views if not within the one program then within a day's or a week's programming.
The ABC has not moved to the left and neither has Hot Copper
Under a constant barrage of Liberal fear-mongering scare campaigns at taxpayer expense, Australia has moved to the right.
For accurately reporting this startling 'aspirational' event, the ABC had its Board stacked with Liberal-leaning clones by John Howard.
But despite carrying tonnes of Liberal lead in its saddle-bags, the ABC still manages a balanced output of news and other programs.
