    Greystone, there were at least a couple of substantial mines that went well below the water table. The largest of these appears to be the Rose of Denmark 1919. I am currently reading a book called 'Gold at Gaffneys Creek' which has a mine map of the Rose, it appears to go down 600ft with extensive workings. Also the New Dempsey mine 1910 which accessed both Dempseys reef and Hunts dyke.
    An author named Brian Lloyd did several books about gold in the area including Woods Point and Jamieson so if you are interested they are fairly readily available and a fascinating read.
