Amazon key to Hydralyte growth for ex-Swisse bosses

The chief executive of the company that operates the Hydralyte rehydration tablets and powders business in North America is chasing more success on Amazon’s e-commerce channel through increased advertising and the use of celebrity influencers.

Oliver Baker, who is one of several former executives of the vitamins group Swisse who either work for Hydration Pharmaceuticals or are on the board, said on Tuesday about 45 per cent of the group’s sales were handled online, the bulk of them through Amazon.


Former Swisse boss Radek Sali will be the second largest shareholder in Hydralyte’s North American operations when it lists on the ASX.

The company is poised to list on the ASX on December 9 after a $17 million raising, with half of the funds earmarked for advertising and marketing, and endorsement by celebrity influencers.

The group has aggressive plans to lift the profile of the brand as it shifts further towards being a health and wellbeing brand also capable of helping people nursing a hangover from drinking too much alcohol, without giving up its core medical purpose of being a trusted rehydration product for those who have suffered a gastro illness.

Mr Baker, who works from the group’s headquarters in San Diego in California, said the company had ambitious plans and knew how to rapidly increase sales of a consumer brand, using part of the template of the Swisse brand.
