This topic was discussed on Sky Business last weekend. These big funds have so much power and hold such huge allotments of shares that they can manipulate sp's. They make money going short, then buy the share at the pummelled sp, leaving the lonely retail on-line investor high and dry. It was stated that in the U.S. it is law that after going short, they can only buy back in the up-tick, Aust has no such law. When you look at the savagery of bank stocks of late, this abuse is so obvious.
