Hi DB, you are assuming the shorted price is the lowest possible sell price.
I believe stock sold short behave like any other sell but belong to someone else. What happen when you put in a sell order for a few million shares? A few sell but the price drifts lower as others start to put their sell orders below that massive sell. So tell me what happens if you put in small buy orders with your trading account below the large sell order on your short account?
Accumulation on your trading account but a few smaller sell on your short account. If it looks like buys pick up you cancel your sell order as you really don't want to sell.
At the end of the day say you shorted a million shares but bought 2 million at a nice low price - you can transfer a million shares to your shorting account so your open position doesn't get bigger.
It's all a game. It's feasible. But I could be imagining it.
