i think australia has an impossible industrial relations system. It works for neither employee or employer. The so called modern awards are a grab bag of conditions that do not reflect a modern workplace and allow comparatively little flexibility unless one entered into a series of individual flexibility agreements. I think they do little to truly protect employees. Coverage clauses are for the most part a nonsense having little regard to actual jobs that now exist. Oh but of course we always have the miscellaneous award for anyone not covered by anything else. And the NES which barely covers the field
it seems to me that an attempt to legislate conditions has led to more of a mess. You can’t legislate thoughtfulness and decency and mutual trust.
