Perhaps if people realized how little gold there really is in the world (all "above ground gold" ie EVER mined if melted down would fit into a cube with sides of 20 odd meters) then they would realize owning a portion of a company that has a million ounces in the ground is perhaps a better bet than owning any piece of paper that says they are long gold ie ETF, THEN the SP might finally be more correlated to the gold price.
