I agree... Right now I would actually be happier for Browse to go to Karratha, I think. The pipeline cost will be large, I guess a couple of billion, but nowhere near the cost of building a full LNG plant at JPP.
So while the returns might be lower for Woodside in the long run, it has the important effect of lowering Woodside's capex commitments significantly.
It has another important advantage. If Browse is going to NWS, then the NWS consortium won't be chasing gas from offshore Karratha to extend the NWS plant life.
So that should increase the chances of a gas deal for Pluto II.
Scrap the Browse LNG plant, pipe Browse to NWS for processing, and spend the capex saved on securing gas for, and building, Pluto II. I like it!
