You seem to know even less about the Aussie "working poor" than you do about that class in the US.

There are welfare supplements of all sorts for low wage earners in the PRESENT Aussie system. Welfare of course includes medical/hospital cover which for the working poor (and the not so poor) is virtually free of charge to them in our country. That particular degree of welfare support is not anywhere near as generous, nor does it extend to as high a relative wage level in the US system.

You either cannot distinguish between things that differ or you are being very devious.

If this legislation is guaranteed passage (due to government control of the senate) and will be, in your opinion, a disaster for a broad range of Australian workers and if an incoming Labor government claims it will repeal it, surely the best way to get rid of Howard and his henchmen is to get the IR changes into place as quickly as possible so that the electorate can see the devastation caused and start as soon as possible to build up anti-Howard steam in a long run-up to the next election.

Chuck I think you and your equally witless friends protest too loudly. Scared it might just be another Howard winner? Oh yes I forgot that other devious little ploy: “the IR changes will look like the workers are on a winner because the economy will be bubbling along nicely until the after the next election.” Pull the other one.
