Simply - grow the tax base or increase taxes, or reduce services.
My preference would be reduce taxes and services, and have a "pay to play" cost upfront for access to some services.
Without tax concessions it can be difficult to establish business in Australia. I suppose you can think of income tax tiers as those concessions as you move up - but the upper tax brackets are high. High enough to consider working abroad. High enough to scrutinise government spending - party agnostic. I'd rather we reduce our contribution through tax, which in turn reduces government spending and services. Alternatively, discount services for tax payers. We can build up a country without tearing the contributors down.
There is such a fertile opportunity in Australia to upskill and earn money. Earn it.
