    Polls suggest otherwise: "The final Fairfax-Ipsos poll of the campaign - which found the major parties locked 50-50 in the two-party preferred vote, found seven in 10 Australian voters backed a change to the Marriage Act to allow same-sex couples to wed.
    This figure represents a rise from 69 per cent in August 2015, and 57 per cent in November 2010. Just 22 per cent of voters now same-sex marriage, down from 25 per cent in August 2015 and 37 per cent in November 2010."
