I know that such geopolitical and religious discussions are incongruous to some posters and readers on HC who expect only stock tips and rumours, financial analysis and the like. At least it's not deteriorated to the level of Ozestock where posters would start the day with "Good Morning, gang" and talk banalities about their families, the weather, next get-together etc.
Yet Hotcopper's General Board has something unusual, which may be thought of as the thinking person's reality drama unfolding every day, wildly divergent opinions struggling for acceptance and fought to the death by anonymous proxies. For those with an interest in the issues of the day, it's free entertainment while mulling the stocks. Those who find it a little intense can simply choose not to open the General board posts.
Only the shallow or simple would fail to recognise the relevance of politics, conflict and violence upon the markets. Of late, the "moderators" have taken a laissez-faire attitude towards the sometimes bitter personal abuse that fills these posts. This proxy war, this weaponless battle, this microcosm of the outside world, these are precious things because - if we met in the flesh there would be no time to consider the arguments, the nuances, the motives. The biggest, most aggressive, strongest or whoever brought a gun would bring it all to an end. That would be a pity.
