Brainchip (Peter Van Der Made) have been developing a neuromorphic processor for over a decade now. Last year was a pivotal year for the company as they produced a chip called Akida in Silicone. The chip is available as IP and in physical form.

Rewind a couple of years and the company set up an Early Access Programme (EAP) which saw some 20ish ‘household name’ companies sign up to test Akida under more than 100 NDAs. The programme sets these companies up with a team from Brainchip who will assist in developing Akida into their specific application(s). NASA, Ford are confirmed, but some strong dots have been drawn to indicate other major industry players are also involved but the company has been vocal about the importance of protecting these companies privacy to service the terms of the NDAs.

So dose a couple of material customers have signed m aterial IP contracts, but obviously it takes time to develop tech so nothing is on the market containing Akida yet. As such it appears that some people doubt that Akida is what the company is claiming - A first/best in class NM processor. They supposedly have a three year lead on their competition thanks to a massive amount of IP patents.

Out of the blue at the start of the year Mercedes publicly stated that they have developed a concept car using Akida in some of the systems, and that it would be using it in “Hey Mercedes” - a Siri style system in its production cars. This effectively validated Akida (from a non biased 3rd party), and caused this rerate.
