Hi geffa,
I tend to agree notwithstanding the earnings' results for NCP.
That said, there is going to be a lot more shakeout of the media /comms sector as convergence, content and media distribution platforms all come into play. This will be more so internationally (USA and Europe), rather than locally (although the recent SBC move on SSR was very interesting).
In this instance, the combination will become:
1)
the leading cable company in the USA; and
2)
one of the premier content providers (current and in progress, as well as archival and library access).
Last week's loss of Pixar is unlikely to impact Disney too much (particularly in the creative department).
Query:
How long before FoxTel moves to either pick up a content producer, or (more to the point) allow the FTAs the ability to provide dedicated supporting channels through accessing their archival and library materials.
In this instance, NINE would be an obvious choice (both a shareholder, and signed up to the new digital platform).
In time, we could see on FoxTel:
1)
NINE - live (ie: FTA);
2)
NINE - comedy vault;
3)
NINE - sports vault;
4)
NINE - other (ie: imported content, extending to drama, but not local drama).
Ditto - NCP through FOX. Already, this is happening with the new FOX Classics 24/7 on FoxTel.
