At the end of the day there is a role in the market for both lithium and vanadium so not sure what the hang up and competition here is about. In terms of the thread header 'crap happens' and what do you think happens when you speed and have an accident. Seriously combustible vehicles explode in car crashes, what do you think happens when friction happens - break the seal or outer case of the battery allowing air and it can become inflamable, but that is a question of better case design as against its lithium contents and speed don't help when you drive like a moron btw. I read the article in the link- seriously crap happens and if it was a combustible vehicle exploding it wouldn't even make the news.

More compact batteries (you know we like small) but wanting greater energy also means more heat and hence cracked cases/poor design is the real issue. That is what people want in the moveable market unfortunately. In the stationary market you essentially don't have these issues if you just prefer nice casing and large enough rather than the 'I want it small and looking yuppie type', because therein lies the risk - small but wanting the same energy content means greater friction and heat which if the case fails well Bob's your uncle but suspect you can never bullet proof casings if there is a moron driving the car.

All IMO and prefer to debate AVL than debate lithium. There is room for everyone, just need topick the market you want in. Vanadium is steel inputs and energy storage in the stationary market.

Now in terms of the trading today, I hope that BOT isn't getting COMSEC to send out paper copies of those the buy/sell orders LOL because a lot of trees will be getting cut down which ain't good for the environment. Yes my poor attempt at humour and time for a VB.

The larger lithium problem is not life time of battery, its the global economic resource availability.

1) Each tesla vehicle uses ~63kg of lithium.
2) The USGS 2018 report gives global reserves of 53mt
3) number of cars on planet = 2b

There you have some #very# basic metrics. Do the back of paper envelope calculations. Realise that there won't be an EV for everyone in the utopian green-communist society. Homes wont be battery powered with lithium.

Vanadium has similar shortages.

My guess is that the world's most intelligent societies will power their cities with solar/wind and vanadium. The most intelligent cities are located in East Asia. The most stupid will continue with coal (or wood) and those in the middle will, for a short time, use lithium before returning to coal.
