    Dave I see you have modified your 10% GST on everything and cut income tax view slightly.

    As I explained the FACTS to you the other day both the tke from GST and personal income tax is around the same level.

    Just as adding GST to the few areas (mainly basic food and medical) that do not already have GST on them would not cover the revenue cost of removing all personal income tax it is also would be unlikely to cover the lost revenue from increasing the tax free threshold to $30,000.

    And to add to this many on low incomes such as pensioners receiving small amounts of top up income are already paying little or no tax due to rebates yet a high portion of their income compared to higher income earners is spent on basic foods and medical. So under your idea these people would end up paying more tax.
