Rabbitoh, I suggest you direct your question ("Just what is wrong with unions?") to the other 80% of the Australian working population:- the ones who are not union members, the ones who feel that the union bosses have enriched themselves, rather than the workers they claim to protect.
You may not like the answers you get, but listen to the sound of former unionists voting with their feet.
