WHC's $5.8billion market cap assumes current operations/sales/prices/profits will continue indefinitely. The latest IPCC report (out today) makes it certain that WHC and all thermal coal operators must close down within the next few years. Renewable plus energy storage can fill the gap reliably and cheaply (look at big tesla battery in south australia). Despite current profits, if WHC only has 5 years left of operations, is it really worth $5.8billion?
