the s&m agreement should have been linked to the outcome of the jv, after all it is an agreement covering only cockatoo, or as peteey mentioned, some type of sunset clause in the event the jv did not proceed. i gather they didn't expect the jv not to conclude which explains showman's initial support for the weg deal.
