In all but very rare cases it is your right to silence. Any lawyer will tell don't talk to cops unless you have a cast iron alibi even if you are innocent. If you do talk only do it with your lawyer present.

PS there is a good law lecture on line called "dont talk to cops". It shows how anything you say can be twisted to your detriment.
