The abolition of the zero tolerance principle in relation to radioactive substances is Greenland's election, says Thorning.


Mining, zero tolerance and storskalalov was on the agenda when Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt (S) on Tuesday met with the newly elected President of the Greenland Self-Government, Ms Hammond from the Greenland sister party Progressive Party.

- We advocate the repeal of zero tolerance, since uranium occurs naturally in some of the raw materials, we have an interest in extracting, among other rare earths.
- Our mineral extraction is very important for the economic future. It is important for Greenland to ensure that the future economic development much more based on the economic opportunities that we have, in the form of own raw materials.

However, there must be an upper limit, emphasizing Hammond:
- It is important not just to open up unlimited extraction of uranium. Therefore, we would like to set a maxgrænse. The limit, we go for now, is that which Europe already allow.
She also notes that future legislation should be aimed at health and the environment and in close cooperation with Denmark.
