    Hi chevon47,

A COVID-19 vaccination is a much safer way to build protection than actually being infected with the COVID virus and it also provides a more predictable immune response whereas the level of natural immunity from infection is largely dependent on the severity of illness ie those who experience only mild symptoms will likely have limited protection from future infection.

"We know the vaccines do not stop infection or transmission of the virus (in fact, the report shows elsewhere that vaccinated adults are now being infected at much HIGHER rates than the unvaccinated)".

Several studies with the Delta variant for example have provided evidence that vaccine effectiveness against infection has been estimated at around 65% with Vaxzevria (Astra Zeneca) and 80% with Comirnaty (Pfizer) and uninfected individuals cannot transmit; therefore, the vaccines are also effective at preventing transmission. Additionally those who become infected despite being vaccinated are also at a reduced risk of transmitting because of reduced duration and severity of illness and level of viral shedding. Vaccinated adults are currently being infected at a higher rate than the unvaccinated because the percentage of the vaccinated population is far greater. To use NSW as another example, 93.6% of the population over the age of 16 are now fully vaccinated so I think its fair to expect a higher number of positive cases being reported in the vaccinated population. Importantly however the rate of hospitalisation within 28 days of a positive COVID-19 test increases with age, and is substantially greater in unvaccinated individuals compared to vaccinated individuals and the rate of death within 28 days or within 60 days of a positive COVID-19 test increases with age, and again is substantially greater in unvaccinated individuals compared to the fully vaccinated.

"The unvaccinated, meanwhile, will procure lasting, if not permanent, immunity to all strains of the alleged virus after being infected with it naturally even just once".

Unfortunately current data shows that the Omicron variant strongly evades natural immunity and those who have been previously infected have little to no protection. Even if the unvaccinated remain confident that the 'alleged virus' will not encroach upon their own lives one should still spare a thought for our healthcare workers over the next few months, They're already doing it tough and its only going to get worse

Omicron largely evades immunity from past infection or two vaccine doses

Striking antibody evasion manifested by the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2

Covid-19: Hospital admission 50-70% less likely with omicron than delta, but transmission a major concern
