Cougar Energy Limited (“Cougar”), an Australian public listed company, is a world leader in commercialising UCG. The Company’s objective is to develop UCG plants in a number of countries, producing gas as a fuel for electricity generation, for the production of gas–to–liquids (GTL), or for petrochemical manufacture.

Cougar, and its UK subsidiary Cougar Energy (UK) Limited, are led by Dr. Len Walker, who was responsible for the successful development of the pilot UCG test at Chinchilla (Queensland) in 1999. This burn gasified approximately 35,000 tonnes of coal making it the most successful test yet in the Western world. The eUCG technology provided by Ergo Exergy Technologies Inc. was successfully demonstrated at Chinchilla and will be utilised on all future Cougar projects.

Cougar has projects in various stages of development or negotiation in Australia, the UK, Pakistan, India, and Indonesia. Its first commercial project is scheduled to commence in Australia in mid-2008.
