Short selling is different to buying, cause it fundamentally works against the long term success of the sharemarket. Short sellers don't help a company who may want to raise funds from an equity issue.

A matter of fact, short selling can become self fulfilling as a result of this affect on the ability of a company to raise equity capital at a reasonable price.

I am with Gerry Harvey and am opposed to it. It is particularly sinister when done in concert with a media campaign at the same time....even csl was subject to this a while back which pushed it to about $90....but it is strong enough....many companies aren't so lucky.

I did enjoy the shorters getting burnt with Spo , and many of the smarties in the big end of town were in on the joke....did u see all the screams of horror....all cloaked in a form of "it's a terrible buy" by the same people who were generally advising clients to short Spo, or managing hedge funds that were short!
