Hmmm... the real blessings are our democratic principles enshrined in the Democratic Westminster system of Government that protect us from political dictators/tyrants.
We also have the "Separation of Powers" that protects us from religious zealotry ...
We also have a society that accepts the "Rule of Law" and an independent Judicial system that protects us from civil disobedience/riots/etc ...
It is increasingly becoming known that societies lacking these blessings won't have much chance of delivering the basic freedoms and standard of living you mention and that we all take for granted.
This is the challenge for development countries ...
