The way I make sense of reincarnation is to use the wave analogy again. If the wave is very well defined (that is, a strong ego or sense of self), it may reform in a similar pattern - that is, as a new human baby here on earth. If the wave has lost most of its amplitude and momentum, it may dissolve back into the One.

"I reckon there's an infinite number of different worlds," "tick".... I used to think of the same model but the more I've read on buddhism and Gita the less sense it makes that consciousness in the sense of "I" might continue after death. after ten years of this I'm still struggling with the concept of a viable "I".
