I'd like to think at least that this is a sophisticated mining operation using best practises with minimal run-off. Agree that KCN could do a hell of a lot better updating investors.

Akara believes  the handful of local activists waging the smear campaign against the company are harboring ulterior motives.  These activists notably included a former employee identified as Ms. Suekanya Teerachartdamrong who has been trying to sell landplots she  bought in  the mine’s vicinity  to the company at exorbitant prices. Ms.Suekanya has repeatedly petitioned numerous government agencies and  the Administrative Court alleging the Chatree mine of causing environmental and health hazards after the company refused to buy her lands.

“It is illogical for  someone protesting that the Chatree mine is causing environmental and  health problems and then at the same time continue to  acquire lands around the mine.  We urge the media to probe for the truth behind the unfounded allegations made by Ms. Suekanya,” Mr. Pakorn said.

In an important verdict in 2012, the Administrative Court in Phitsanuloke dismissed a petition filed by Ms. Suekanya after the court at its own expense commissioned a comprehensive environmental and health check which  concluded that the Chatree mine does not cause any negative environmental or health effects to the nearby communities.

We can only hope for a similar verdict to that in 2012...
