415 died from influenza and pneumonia
62 have died in Australia, year to date from COVID-19 (government links below, 232 days ), typically people over 80 years of age.
South Australia’s road toll, year to date is 64 (Coroner related, not medically related, source abs) Soon we will be banning the motor vehicle.
Approximately 12 million people are in lock down for a week or two, due to Covid-19
Given approximately 700/915 Covid deaths since April 2020 in Australia were aged >80 I also looked for recent USA Research on vaccine effectiveness. May 2021 has a report on Pfizer/Moderna vaccine. Research for covid-19 related hospitalisations for people older than 65 (Pfizer/Moderna vaccine effectiveness) seemed appropriate enough, given the Ausgov snapshot shows approximately 700/914 deaths were people older than 80.
The latest research shows it is 28-82% effective for a single shot. This rises to 49-99% for a second shot, “However Hospitalization is a rare outcome among patients with COVID-19 associated illness of any severity, so most cases detected in the trials did not lead to hospitalisation; therefore the studies had limited power to assess protection against severe COVID-19 among older adults”
In the USA they have administered more than 339million vaccine doses. The study referenced above was an evaluation at 24 hospitals in 14 states released May 2021.
