samsung sell around 300 million phones a year and if only 1% was purchased directly through Samsung using AfterPay, it would create around $3 Billion in revenue to APT (before costs). nothing to be sneezed at hey. Having the flexibility of paying the phone off over 8 weeks will be attractive to those who want to save money on their mobile plans. I purchased my Iphone outright (not through APT unfortunately), got it cheaper through JB HI FI, and am on a mobile month to month plan which gives me more than if I was buying the handset through the carrier.
