A class action using S&G or any other similar firm, may be awarded $100m, but by the time you see any money, it'll be more like only $20m. I was in the S&G NAB class action, lost about $4k, and ended up with around $500. That was after waiting well over a year after the out of court settlement. The 'funder' got the lion's share, S&G took their fees and the punters shared the left overs. I'm better off by the $500 (because I had already written it off), but a lot of cash went to the guys who didn't actually have any skin in the game and it was a very frustrating process trying to find out what was going on between the 'court ruling' stage and the 'cash in hand' stage.

Personally, I think the current approach is probably the best. Take it through the court process, but keep the ambulance chasers out of it, because they are only there to skim and they skim deeply.
