M1ck, there was also talk about the slurry clogging filters .... sounds like the slurry was unexpected altogether?

EN was in charge when the pipes were put in.

The plant wasn't running long enough for pitting and premature corrosion unless (more speculation!!) it was started, and then stopped for a period of time with acid in the pipes. Or, as you suggest, low velocity caused slurry to form in the bottom of the pipe providing the classic conditions for pitting. Which could well be the case if the plant runs at part capacity, as in a start-up.

The cost of the pipes can't have been an issue, as we have been told that the replacement costs are insignificant. LOL, we haven't a clue what happened, have we? Nothing really ties in. All we know is that the bloody thing doesn't work, and they have blamed it on the pipework.

omg "Jantimot, thank you for the kind words." OK, I won't argue about that comment :-))

IF, and it's a big IF, they are vague because of IP issues, they've just made themselves look like idiots by picking the piping as an excuse. There are an infinite number of grades of "stainless steel" available, they wouldn't have given anything away by being a bit more specific. Sulphuric acid corroding pipes ..... who would ever have guessed that!
