when the old timers chose what to extract then the best indicator was visible gold instead of having the quartz properly assayed, and it became obvious that visible gold usually crushed out at to least 1 oz/ton (sometimes a little less)
this rule-of-thumb still applies today
as for HEG's "abundant" - probably means much greater than 1 oz/t
and that's why there is still millions of ounces down there - if the old timers couldn't see it they didn't extract it
the latest drill results don't look so good at about 5 g/t but as Opaline points out, 5 g/t drill results usually produce about two or three times the drill grade when processed - grade factoring
the Hill End people never seem to talk about grade factoring, as if we all know about it
