I agree 100% with volt that this will take many years to heal....but it may not be all bad. we have had 2 such periods in the history of the dow...20 years 1929 to 1949 and 16 years 1966 to 1982.....for us this period started in 2000. below is a chart of the 20 year bear from 1929 to 1949...as you can see about 10 of those 20 years were actually bull markets but it was the other 10 that did the damage. our recent bull 2002 to 2007 was not dissimilar to the third bull on the chart in time and price....the first bull on my chart was an absolute cracker.

i think as long as you are aware that this is how the game will play out for about another decade then there is still ample opportunity to prosper....but I say deny the existance of the long term bear at your peril.
