I sort of agree with you.

It is pretty obvious that "ASX by Stocks" is for the discussion of specific stocks listed on the ASX and we all accept that.

I think that perhaps "ASX General" is mis-named. Most of us seem to accept that it is an area for general financial/investment discussion. After all, I can think of very little ASX discussion that couldnt be included under "ASX by stock". Maybe "ASX General" could be renamed to your suggestion of "General Finance" or something similar.

Menatime, I personally have no problem with gold posts being posted in "ASX General". Frankly, now that I have been able to make "General" invisible I am as happy as can be - as long as non-investment postings stay over there. On reflection there is probably not a lot of point in making another forum as, if it is investment related, then most of us would view it as part of "Latest Posts" anyway.

I guess the other approach would be to make a new forum "Politics/Religion" (a little tongue in cheek here).
